Ruh-roh, it could be bad news for Scooby fans

Netflix’s Scooby-Doo reveal could complicate potential LEGO return

Netflix has unveiled the first look at its live-action Scooby-Doo series, and it could be bad news for LEGO fans.

After being officially announced in March 2025, fans have now seen how the titular character will appear in the upcoming Scooby-Doo: Origins show.

However, as the series title suggests, this is a prequel, and the images confirm that Scooby will appear as a puppy.

Despite its relatively short run between 2015 and 2016, LEGO Scooby-Doo remains a popular theme among fans.

The announcement of a new culturally relevant series on one of the world's most popular streaming sites has naturally fuelled hopes that the LEGO Group could revisit the franchise with new sets.

However, with Scooby depicted as a puppy, any potential LEGO sets based on the show would likely feature a younger version of the character rather than the iconic adult design.

For some fans, that could be a welcome change and a fresh take on the character. But for many who missed the original sets during the theme’s initial run, it may fall short of the classic Scooby look they associate with the franchise.

That potential divide highlights the challenge of balancing a new interpretation with what fans already expect from the character. And that isn’t just a consideration for the LEGO Group, but for any creative industry working with characters and stories that audiences already hold so closely.

That said, sets remain only a possibility at this stage, and nothing has been officially confirmed. The series itself is not expected to release on the streaming platform until at least 2027 and is still in production.

For now, the only realistic route to new Scooby-Doo sets may be through LEGO Ideas, where Scooby-Doo – Night of Fright Is No Delight! recently reached 10,000 supporters.
